Dennis “DJ” Jenson joined MidOcean’s Executive Board in 2019 bringing 30+ years of experience as a senior-level operator, private-equity operating partner and business leader across a broad range of top-tier consumer brands, market sectors and global markets. As a hands-on operator, he has proven capabilities for accelerating growth of revenues, earnings and brand equity without compromising core values, culture, authenticity or purpose.
Prior to joining MidOcean, from 2009-2019, DJ served as an Operating Partner with North Castle Partners, a middle market private-equity team focused on consumer brands within the healthy, active and sustainable living sectors. His work spanned more than 25 portfolio platforms across four separate funds—providing end-to-end operating support including: deal sourcing, diligence, portfolio management and exit preparation. Specific verticals included: food/beverage, beauty/personal care, apparel/footwear, sports/fitness/outdoor recreation, experiential retail, specialty nutrition and sustainable living. In addition, DJ led the portfolio-wide focus on all aspects of value-creation relating to brand/marketing, product/service innovation and go-to-market strategies.
Prior to his private-equity career, DJ held senior-level leadership roles within several global consumer brands including: VP of Global Business Development and Licensing, The Timberland Company (NYSE: TBL); President of Business Development and SVP of Marketing, The Burton Corporation; Regional Marketing Manager, The McDonald’s Corporation. In addition, over the past two decades, DJ has served in both Chairman and board member roles across a diverse range of privately-held and fund-owned brands. Recent board engagements include: New Belgium Brewing (2009-2018), 1% For The Planet (2008-2018), Black Diamond Equipment (2002-2010), Flatout Flatbread (2009-2015), Ignite/Contigo (2012-2015), Ibex Outdoor (2010-2018), Brooklyn Boulders (current) and Windham Mountain (current). DJ is the recipient of the Advertising Age “Marketing 100” award for success in building a global lifestyle brand (Burton) and winner of a Clio for innovation in digital marketing.
